Black Pioneers Teacher Workshop
March 1, 2024
9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Be the first to see our new traveling exhibition, "Black Pioneers: Legacy in the American West." Featuring 50 quilts created by the Women of Color Quilters Network, this exhibition explores the path of Black history in the West with a timeline of original quilts.
During the workshop, teachers will see the exhibition before it opens to the public, create two hands-on studio art projects inspired by the exhibition, and enjoy an artist talk and meet and greet with Houston Artist Carolyn Crump.
Carolyn Crump is an award winning multimedia artist, renowned for her 3-D quilts. She uses them as storytellers and chroniclers of African-American culture. Crump is a member of the Women of Color Quilters Network. Her work has been featured in shows throughout North America and in Europe, including "Black Pioneers: Legacy in the West." She has three quilts in the exhibition and was commissioned to create an educational touch quilt for the Stark Museum of Art.
Lunch will be provided for all participants. 5 CPE Hours will be provided.
